Answering Your Questions...

What to Expect when dealing with a First Trade Registry Partner !! The following is a description of how a typical transaction and purchase would "go down." The following FAQs deal specifically with how eBay auctions are handled, but all FTR transactions are similar regardless of whether the car was on eBay or not.

Before we list a vehicle for sale,

FTR always gets the bottom dollar reserve !!

BUT, you still need to bid realistically.

This is the first time I've won something on eBay.... what should I know now?

If you are the high bidder (and the reserve has been met) on one of our eBay auctions, you will be contacted by the listing Partner shortly after the end of the auction. The partner will give you information concerning where to send the $500 deposit. This deposit needs to be received within 3 days after the close of the auction, so this check will normally be sent via some overnight service. This will be a Certified funds, Cashiers Check, or Money Order in U.S. FUNDS made out to First Trade Registry. This can also be done via PayPal, and deposit will be paid directly to the FTR Partner. At that time, the Partner will discuss with you how you intend to complete the transaction. Most buyers will want the FTR Partner who is handling the auction to make all arrangements for the pre-purchase vehicle inspection, handle all the paper work (Bill of Sale and Title), handle the money transfer to the seller, and make arrangements for transportation. But, there will be some occasions where buyers will physically check out the car themselves and drive it home or make their own arrangements for transportation. Scroll down to see how the FTR Partner will work with you in this situation.

Who will be inspecting the car, and is the inspector associated with your company?

First Trade Registry can arrange for a Professional 3rd Party Inspection. This individual would be certified to thoroughly inspect the car. The inspector may or may not be associated with First Trade Registry. Either way we will let you know. If the inspector is associated with First Trade Registry they will of course have nothing "at stake" financially in regards to the vehicle they are inspecting. The Partner will also disclose to you the person, and/or business that will be doing the vehicle inspection. You will know what this person’s qualifications and/or business qualifications are.

How much will it cost ?

Normal costs for the Vehicle Inspection is $150, but it can go higher if there is extra travel time, or special circumstances involved in the inspection. If the car is checked for specific originality items, that will normally drive the cost up as well. Select Vehicle Inspection Form

What happens after the Vehicle Inspection is completed ?

Once the vehicle inspection is completed, you will be faxed or emailed a copy and given an opportunity to review it. If there are any questions, they can normally be answered by the Partner. In some circumstances, you will need to speak with the inspector, and that is not a problem. You will need to remember most of the vehicle inspectors are difficult to catch up with (as many have their own business or work for someone), and you will need to be patient in trying to contact them.

Okay, so I am convinced the car I am buying has been represented correctly, how does the paperwork and money transfer get handled ?

After the inspection is done and all questions answered, you will be faxed or e-mailed a Bill of Sale, along with a copy of the Title for the vehicle.

You then need to pay the balance on the vehicle. You may pay the balance of the purchase price in cash, cashiers or certified check, money order, or wire transfer. If these forms of payment are not acceptable, please do not bid. Of course payment in cash could only be handled if you are coming to pick up the car. Any checks will be made out to the owner of the vehicle, but sent to the FTR Partner. If it is a wire transfer, you will receive instructions on how to wire the money directly into the seller’s bank account. If there is a lien on the vehicle, you will be told exactly what the payoff is and who needs to get what checks. All this information will be given to you by the FTR Partner. The FTR Partner will hand deliver the funds to the owner or bank as applicable and receive the Title and Bill of Sale at that time. The FTR Partner will then make copies of all paperwork and then overnight all original paperwork directly to you. At this point, you own the car and you will need to call your insurance company to have insurance placed on the vehicle.

I have never bought a car "long-distance" before, how do I know who to call to transport the car to me ?

The next thing to be handled in the transaction is securing the vehicle  (protecting your purchase) and immediately arranging vehicle transportation.

The FTR Partner can help you make arrangements for transportation and or World Wide delivery. These arrangements would be made ahead of time so the vehicle can be secured immediately after the funds are transferred. There are situations where the car can stay at its present location for a short period of time waiting to be picked up by the vehicle transporter. Normally it is picked up immediately and taken to a secure holding area before being placed on the final large transporter to make the trip to your location. All the vehicle transporters are licensed, bonded, and insured, but remember, you want to get your insurance coverage as well. The normal arrangements with vehicle transporters are they get a small down payment to secure pick-up of your purchase and then balance on delivery.  You will be told exactly who to make a check out to and how to contact the transporter. Most transporters can deliver the car to your door, but in some situations, you can save quite a bit of money if you pick the car up at a terminal. The FTR Partner can help you in making all of these decisions. You also need to be aware that if you use an open transporter, the car will get dirty and will look pretty bad when it arrives. Depending on weather conditions, the car could have gone through rain or snow and will not look like it did in the pictures. Don't panic! A good wash job will quickly take care of the road grime, and your new vehicle will look just like what you expected. Remember, all new vehicles get delivered to new car dealers on open transporters.

The FTR Partner can also arrange to have your vehicle delivered in an enclosed transporter, which will add a little more to the cost of delivery.

Depending on your destination from vehicle location, delivery costs and estimated times of delivery can vary from transporter to transporter. If you do your own research, please be sure to get at least a couple of different quotes (not only on price, but also on estimated delivery times).

I would feel more comfortable checking out the car myself.  If I decide to fly in to the car's location, would I need to rent a car at that point?

If you choose to inspect the car yourself, the FTR Partner will work with you in regards to getting to where the car is located. If you are flying in, the Partner will normally be able to meet you at the airport and take you to the car. If you are driving, the Partner will make arrangements to meet you at a convenient location and then take you to the car. Once you arrive where the car is, the owner will be present, and you can look at the car, test drive the car, and do whatever you would want to make sure the car is "as described." If you want a 3rd Party person to evaluate the car with you, you will need to make all of those arrangements ahead of time.

After I find that everything is in order and I am pleased with the car, how do I pay?

Once you are satisfied the car is acceptable, it would normally be paid for at this time, so you would need to be prepared with cash, cashier's check, or another acceptable form of payment. This check will be made out to the owner of the vehicle. If there is a lien on the vehicle, all of the payoff information will be made available and appropriate checks to lending institutions etc. will need to be brought. You will need to speak with the FTR Partner before you make arrangements to view the car and purchase.

I have not brought my checkbook with me, so how much time do I have to complete the transaction ?

If the car is not being paid for at this time, remember it needs to be paid for within 10 days of the close of the auction. The Partner will be able to handle delivering the payment to the owner and then sending the Title and Bill of Sale to you by Federal Express.

If you need transportation arranged, the FTR Partner will be able to help you with that as well. See above in regards to how the transportation is handled.

What happens if problems occur ?  Am I on my own to work things out ?

One of the most important things to remember in this whole process is the FTR Partner is there to help. First Trade Registry and its Partners have done this many, many times. There are no two transactions that go exactly the same, but no matter what comes up, we will have a solution. You can rest assured the entire transaction will be handled honestly and professionally.

Once I get the car, I've heard about inexpensive collector car insurance on cars older than 25 years.  How can I find such an agent ?

We can supply you with a number of different companies offering such insurance.

I may need financing on the car I wish to purchase, do you have any recommendations ?

With good credit, we should be able to point you in the right direction. Good people with bad credit, we might be able to help you with financing. There are financing alternatives?

If you are seeking financing, please be sure to hold off on your bid until your funding has been approved. You are responsible for your own finance arrangements, so please take care of them before bidding!!

I like the looks of this car, but I'm not sure if it's for me ?

Our partners can advise you if you ask for their help.  Many partners are car buffs, collectors, paint & body guys, machinists, and certified mechanics etc., who have been involved in the automobile industry, classic/collector car hobby for many, many years and are more than willing to share their knowledge with you.  Not sure if you should buy a small block Corvette or a Big Block ?  Do you even know the difference between the two? We can explain.  Is the car going to be a "driver" or a "trailer queen" ?  Your use of the car helps determine in part which you should buy.  This is all part of our "professional service package".

How do I know you are not holding back information about the car ?

Our Code of Ethics requires us to tell you what we have learned about the car from the owner.  We work equally for both the seller and the buyer. FTR acts as a trusted third party to assist all parties to help Negotiate a successful transfer of ownership. Below is just one small "quote" from our Code of Ethics.
